Stick drift test: This stick drift test focuses on resting analog-stick axes and compares them with a dead zone you choose.

How this stick drift test works

Connect the controller, press a button, release both sticks, and wait for the values to settle. Compare several dead-zone settings, then rotate each stick fully and reset the maximum before another resting sample.

How to read the results

Axis values near zero are centered. A small nonzero value can be normal, while repeatable resting movement outside a game's dead zone can move the camera or character. The practical threshold depends on the controller and game.

Common causes of failed tests

Drift can come from worn potentiometers, contamination, spring wear, calibration, firmware, Hall sensor alignment, wireless interruption, or remapping software.

Troubleshooting before you replace hardware

Update official firmware, remove remapping, reconnect by USB, recalibrate only through official tools, and compare the full gamepad tester. Hardware service may be needed when drift is repeatable across devices.
