How this mic test works
Choose Start microphone and allow access. Speak at your normal distance. Watch the level, then record a short sample and play it back. Stop the microphone when finished.
How to read the results
Normal speech should create a responsive level without sitting at the top. Playback should be clear, correctly routed, and free of repeated dropouts. The percentage is relative browser input amplitude, not calibrated decibels.
Common causes of failed tests
A silent or distorted signal can come from the wrong input, muted hardware, browser permission, operating-system privacy settings, an exclusive app, cable damage, excessive gain, noise suppression, or a disconnected interface.
Troubleshooting before you replace hardware
Select the intended input in system settings, reconnect USB devices directly, close conferencing apps, lower gain if speech clips, and retry in a current browser. Headphones prevent speaker sound from feeding back into the microphone.
