Webcam test: This webcam test opens a local video preview and reports the resolution, frame rate, camera label, and facing mode exposed by the browser.

How this webcam test works

Choose Start camera and allow access. Check framing, focus, exposure, color, motion, and the reported settings. Mirror the preview if that matches your meeting app, then stop the camera.

How to read the results

The preview should start promptly, remain stable, and show natural motion without repeated freezes. Browser-reported resolution and frame rate describe the active stream, which can differ from the camera’s advertised maximum.

Common causes of failed tests

A blank or soft image can come from a privacy shutter, permission block, another app using the camera, poor light, USB bandwidth, a low-resolution browser constraint, autofocus limits, or a driver problem.

Troubleshooting before you replace hardware

Open the privacy shutter, close conferencing software, reconnect the camera directly, improve front lighting, select the intended camera in system settings, and retry in a current browser.

For setup and buying context, see the mic test, webcam test, CPS test, and sound test.

Frequently asked questions

Is webcam video uploaded?

No. The preview stays on the device and this page does not record or upload it.

Why is the resolution lower than advertised?

The browser, USB link, lighting, selected mode, or another app can cause a lower active stream setting.

Why is my camera unavailable?

Permission may be blocked, another app may hold the camera, or a hardware privacy shutter may be closed.
