How to Use This Template
- Pull up your bank and credit card statements from the last 3 months and log every recurring charge. You will almost certainly find at least one subscription you forgot about.
- Flag any service you have not used in the past 30 days. These are your cancellation candidates.
- Check the autopay column carefully. Bills on autopay with incorrect bank details cause missed payments that damage your credit score.
- Recalculate your annual cost total each quarter. The difference between your monthly total and what you thought you were spending is often a useful wake-up call.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I handle bills that vary each month?
Write the average amount in the Amount column and note ‘variable’ beside it. For the payment grid, mark the month as paid once the bill clears regardless of the exact amount.
Should I include one-time payments in this tracker?
No. This tracker is for recurring charges only. For one-time purchases and irregular expenses, use the variable spending section of the monthly budget tracker.
What is the 12-month payment grid for?
A visual record of whether each bill was paid on time across the whole year. One look shows you if any service has a pattern of missed or late payments.
Is this tracker free?
Yes, completely free. No email required. Print one copy and update it throughout the year.
