Back and Forward are browser-navigation buttons. This page blocks navigation only while the pointer is inside the test area, but some browser or mouse software may intercept them. Polling rate is an estimate from pointer-event timing, not a USB protocol analyzer. Move the mouse quickly and steadily for a more useful estimate.

How this mouse test works
Move the pointer rapidly inside the large test area to build a polling-rate estimate. Click each physical button and confirm the matching mouse region lights. Scroll in both directions. For the double-click check, make deliberate single clicks and watch the interval. Finish with the separate five-second CPS pad if you want a repeatable click-speed number.
How to read the results
A normal button should register once for each deliberate press. Two events arriving under about 90 milliseconds apart are suspicious when you clicked only once, although an intentionally fast double click can be that quick. Polling estimates often cluster near 125, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, or 8,000 Hz. Browser scheduling makes the result approximate, especially at high rates.
Common causes of failed tests
Unintended double clicks usually come from switch bounce or worn contacts. Missed wheel steps can come from dust in the encoder. Intermittent movement may involve a dirty sensor, reflective desk surface, wireless interference, low battery, a damaged cable, USB power saving, or an overloaded browser session.
Troubleshooting before you replace hardware
Try a plain, non-glossy surface, clean the sensor opening without touching it, and connect directly to another USB port. Disable vendor macros while testing. On wireless models, charge the battery and move the receiver closer with an extension cable. If single presses consistently become double clicks across two computers, the switch is the likely fault.
