This test changes the entire screen between bright, high-contrast colors. Do not use it if abrupt color changes may trigger discomfort, migraine, seizures, or another photosensitive response. Stop immediately if you feel unwell. Colors advance only when you click or press an arrow key, so there is no automatic flashing.

How this dead pixel test works

Read the photosensitivity warning before starting. Clean the screen, dim distracting room reflections, and enter fullscreen. Scan slowly in a grid rather than staring at the center. Click or use the arrow keys to move through every color. Recheck a suspicious point on at least three backgrounds, then exit with Escape.

How to read the results

A fully dead pixel stays black on bright backgrounds. A stuck subpixel may remain red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, or yellow depending on which channels respond. A speck that changes shape when you move your head is more likely dust or a reflection. Broad cloudy patches, edge glow, and dirty-screen texture are uniformity issues rather than one dead pixel.

Common causes of failed tests

Pixel defects can result from manufacturing variation, transistor failure, pressure damage, impact, heat, or aging. Uniformity problems can come from backlight construction, panel tension, viewing angle, local-dimming zones, or image retention. OLED image retention and burn-in are not the same as a single dead pixel.

Troubleshooting before you replace hardware

Photograph the defect on several test colors, note its exact location, and review the seller and manufacturer pixel policy while the return window is open. Avoid pressing, rubbing, or tapping the panel. A stuck-pixel exercise may not help and rapid flashing can create a health risk. Replacement is the reliable remedy for a confirmed hardware defect.
